Pat Noonan signed by Columbus

By: James | Comments 1 Comment

MLS announced today that Pat Noonan was signed to New England and traded to Columbus.
From MLSNet.com:

“At this point he’s probably more inclined to play wide midfield for us while Robbie and Ekpo are gone,” [Sigi] said. “He can play Alejandro’s position in a pinch. He can play Guillermo’s position and he can certainly play both [...]

Crew vs. Dynamo: Match Report

By: James | Comments No Comments

Crew 0, Dynamo 2
Brad Davis(Brian Mullan) 13, Brian Ching(Nate Jaqua) 43
It’s no fun to lose. I’m most disappointed that the Crew drops to 1.6 Points Per Game, the same figure as Chicago. That’s a slide from 1.8 at the end of June. New England is at 1.9 PPG with two games in hand on [...]

Mysterious Nigerian Forward revealed

By: James | Comments 1 Comment

From the clues in Shawn Mitchell’s post,
Is it Ibezito Ogbonna?
He’s Nigerian, 25, and played for Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
He was 10 goals in 31 games in 03/04, 7 goals in 29 games in 04/05, 10 goals in 30 games in 05/06, and 1 goal in 7 games in 06/07. He was injured in 2007 and also [...]

Wild guess

By: James | Comments 2 Comments

I think Guillermo is going to move to a DP contract before the end of this season. There’s too much grinning for me to think otherwise. If it takes using the DP spot to secure Schelotto for 2009, I say go for it.
Schelotto came to Columbus on a 2 year, ~ $2 million [...]

Interview with Robbie Rogers and Other News

By: TrivDaddy | Comments No Comments

Hey All, Don’t get too excited. This is just a goofy interview that I found. It is pretty entertaining, but it reminds me of a MySpace or Facebook quiz.
The interview
Also, it looks like over the weekend, Eddie Gaven gave the U-23 men’s national team the game winner over Honduras. The goal [...]

Moreno: Sigi Explains All

By: Jeff | Comments No Comments

Last Wednesday, I puzzled a bit over the swap that sent Joseph Ngwenya to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for Alejandro Moreno suiting up for the Columbus Crew. Confine the conversation to goals alone and that makes sense; hell, even when factoring in Moreno’s penchant for drawing fouls the upside to the move seemed [...]

Crew Shopping Gaven?

By: Jeff | Comments 1 Comment

I owe du Nord for pointing out what I failed to catch: Steve Goff of Washington Post and Soccer Insider fame, wrote Wednesday that the Columbus Crew are waving mid-forward Eddie Gaven as trade bait (it’s his last point if you’re having trouble finding it).
Even as Goff wonders whether anyone will bite given Gaven’s salary, [...]

Ngwenya Gone: Moreno? MORENO?

By: Jeff | Comments No Comments

On my way to the newsstand - the MLS Newsstand, that is - I saw a headline that read, “Dynamo Trade Moreno for Ngwenya.” Hopefully, that explains my title - and here’s the article that came after the link. And, to be perfectly clear, the Columbus Crew appears to have completed a trade [...]

Columbus Crew Offside Contest + Schelotto + Perspectives = …

By: Jeff | Comments 5 Comments

Serendipity. That’s what you have when a contest concept that’s been percolating in your head meets the lead from the report on the Columbus Crew’s latest, fancy signing:
“The wait is over.”
“Not for the Crew’s first goal of the season, but for the person who might score it.”
And there you have it: the basic concept [...]

Slipping on the Schelottos*

By: Jeff | Comments 4 Comments

(* Dang, that would sound way better if the guy’s name was “Scheletto” - it’d be kind of like the heels and speak of sleakness and high society.)
As is noted by “Kenny” in the comments to yesterday’s post (scooped by the commenters…dang…), MLS Underground posted something this morning suggesting the Crew is close (very close?) [...]
