Around the ‘net
By: James | July 17th, 2008First:
Robbie Rogers is going to Beijing. Go Robbie.
Second:
It’s been surprisingly quiet July for Columbus regarding roster changes. So and Hernandez were waived, but nothing’s come to fruition since then. We’ve heard about the Nigerian forward Ibezito Ogbonna coming to camp from Israel via Romania, and I take it that a deal for Pat Noonan is still dead. But is that all there is?
Since the transfer window opened, New York Red Bulls have added at least four new players (Look through Dave’s other post for more info. Red Bulls got a decont upgrade this month).
San Jose is signing Brazilian midfielder Francisco Lima.
A rumored three-way trade could send forward in Carlos Ruiz to Toronto from LA, defender Wilman Conde from Chicago to LA, and set up Brian McBride in Chicago where he wants to be. At the very least LA has added a defender and the league has committed to making sure McBride lands in Chicago.
Show Columbus some love, people.
Third:
I wanted to recommend Around the League in 90 minutes. It’s a 2 hour (yeah, I know) radio show/podcast from championssoccerradio.com that reviews every MLS match every week. Hosts Peter Brown and Graham Bell call games for Chivas USA, but they talk to supporters and journalists from each city in MLS. I’m hooked. I have been especially impressed by the knowledge and analysis of Glenn Webb in Salt Lake and Ben Burton in Chicago, although everybody they talk to is worth hearing. Crew coverage bumps between a couple of HSH guys you’ll find blogging here. MJ focuses a bit more on supporter culture and an overall view of the team. Blake is a little more focused on form, tactics and performance on the field.

the crew got screwed with the mcbride deal. though i’m a galaxy fan, i would’ve like to see him back in columbus. i think he would have helped you guys become an even better team than what you having going on and may have all but locked up a playoff spot.
