Dear Columbus Crew

What are you doing? As a supporter of the club for a good while I think mistakes are being made. It’s understandable if you don’t want to resign Hejduk or Padula but GBS? Come on are you for real?! If it wasn’t for his experience that he brought I don’t think this team was even close to being where they are today. Granted it was a team effort but still at least let him play one more freaking year and let the guy retire! Have you not heard him say he loves the city and fans?! Maybe you need to make another coaching change instead. Don’t give me the crap about how the team is in “rebuild” stage. That’s the same excuse we have heard over and over again. So now it comes out that the coaches didn’t like GBS from the start. Umm hello he was the Leagues MVP in 2008 along with the MVP of MLS Cup 2008. I understand it’s all about the money and roster spots. Work something out damnit. These younger guys need to look upon the Vets for advice so that when the Vets decide to retire they can take the ranks. In true honesty no one can rank where GBS does. You can throw all your strikers in there but no one will perform and shine. We learned the lesson in 2009 during the playoffs. 2010 he was a huge playmaker. So if you decide to let him go it will be a big mistake.

The decision to not take on GBS for 2011 just seems wrong. For someone who has scored so many goals in his years with the Crew the excuse to go with a younger team is useless. The supporters see the value he brings to the pitch, yet somehow it is lost on you the Front Office. We hear your excuse that this is a rebuilding phase for the Crew, however do you think it smart to rip the team apart this much.

The stadium CHANTS Guillermo’s name every chance we get, and we learn you have been trying to get rid of him since signing him. How are we, as supporters, supposed to have faith in your decisions from this point forward? Are you so determined to drive this team to the bottom of the league that you take financial hits that may cause the team to relocate?

What a mess Columbus Crew, Mark McCullers, Robert Warzycha, and the rest of the Hunt Sports Group!

Sign Guillermo or boycott the Crew. Eastern European coach who loves Leinert is willing to part with the most productive, creative player this country will see in a long time. Schelloto deserves another year. Replace both Bliss (worthless) and Warzycha (whom I dearly appreciate) with Guillermo if need be. The Crew owe the greatest streak they have ever experienced almost soley to 1 player!

9 goals, and 8 assists on the season. And you decide not to resign him? You have to be kidding me, no one else on the Crew even comes close to matching his production over the season. And you say you are going to go younger, but yet our young strikers time and time again missed opportunities all year, not to mention the 2nd leg of the playoffs this year. Also, it is not having experienced strikers that can hold the ball leads to GBS playing so deep all year that his assist total is low. Don’t get me wrong I think Mendoza, Gaven, Lenhart and Renteria can all be decent strikers, but look at the stats this year it was a defender Iro who was our 3rd leading goal scorer, A DEFENDER! In order for our strikers to perform and flourish they need a playmaker to play those killer balls and the only one on this team who has proven he can do so is GBS. Your other midfielders (Moffat, Rogers, Exkpo, Carroll and O’Rourke) totaled 4 Goals and 2 assists all year in MLS play, GBS DOUBLED FOUR PLAYERS PRODUCTION!

We are “rebuilding” the Crew totaled 50 points, 50 POINTS. Most ever in Crew history, so by the front office’s thinking we have been rebuilding since the inception of the league. The Crew’s main problem is that they let every other team go out and sign big name designated players while they try to scrounge the depths of South American leagues for a diamond in the rough. We have been the best team in the league over the past few years, reward your fans, resign arguably the best player in MLS history GBS and also go out and get some one who is a proven producer, like Juan Pablo Angel (who is recently on the market) and finish this team.

The ineptitude of Mark McCullers has finally cost this team and its fans. FIRE MARK MCCULLERS AND ROBERT WARZYCHA!
