OMG! FRIENDLIES!
By: Matt | February 22nd, 2009
The Crew depart for jolly old England this week to continue there preparations for their upcoming MLS Cup title defense. On their journey across the Atlantic, the Crew will take on a few EPL reserve sides to continue to build up their match fitness and work out the kinks. It will be an important trip, with many members of the Crew getting back to camp after national team duty. Just so I don’t get any Unibond League conspiracy theorists on here, the Crew will take on Unibond League team Guiseley AFC Tuesday March 3rd. I will be sure to make sure I know every detail and will report the score, because this meaningless friendly will once and for all decide if the Unibond League or MLS is better. It is a life and death matter, where the Crew I’m sure will put forth it’s strongest team possible in hopes to earn the glory that comes with being victorious in a friendly match. The city of Columbus has called the island of Puerto Rico for advice on how to handle what is sure to be a reaction the city has never seen if the Crew are lucky enough to win the match on Tuesday. You see, Puerto Rico has a history of winning these types of important, important matches and well by God if there fans don’t just dance in the streets for days and days, declaring their team to be the best in the land and the king of the friendly. Hopefully, the Crew can someday have the same reputation of being the kings of meaningless matches. One day…

Don’t you take Guiseley lightly nor show such disdain for a good old English team! The club is celebrating its Centenary and look on the Columbus Crew game as part of their celebrations, the link being made by our coach Mark Ellis, who comes over to coach in the USA every summer. Guiseley take on Leeds United and Bradford City every pre-season and usually beat them both. UniBond football is of good quality and includes many recent professional players from the English Football Leagues as well as youngsters making their way upwards.
Some of our young players had trials with LA Galaxy last year.We are looking forward to the game.Posted from

Rachel-I meant no offense to Guiseley. I knew about Mark Ellis being your coach, and he was the Michigan Bucks of the PDL’s coach last year. This post was done tongue in cheek towards other supporters of another American league who seemed to think that a friendly victory meant that their team was the best ever. It’d be like if Sheffield United beat Everton in a preseason friendly, does that mean that the Championship is the superior league to the EPL? No, I’m sure we can agree with that.
I look forward to seeing (well, reading about because it won’t be broadcasted over here)our two teams meet and I’m sure that both teams will play great. Is this friendly open to the public?
